Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

A therapeutic intervention designed to help children, adolescents, and their caregivers overcome the impact of traumatic events.

About This Program

TF-CBT utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach. Over the course of treatment, children and their caregivers will:

  • Learn about the impact of trauma on emotions and behavior
  • Learn how to regulate their body sensations
  • Learn how to recognize and understand emotions
  • Learn how to identify unhelpful thinking patterns
  • Share experience of trauma
  • Build safety skills for the future

What Can You Expect as the Caregiver?

  • Participation in sessions with and/or without the child
    • Learn to support skill practice at home
    • Guidance on navigating challenging behaviors
    • Preparation and participation in child’s sharing and processing of traumatic experience(s)
  • Periodic assessments
    • Supports and helps monitor progress in decreasing symptoms
