We invite you to join us for the next event in our Building Healthy Communities through Empowered Relationships initiative. This 2 day training, entitled Developing Healthy Men and Boys, will be facilitated by Steven Botkin and James Arana of MERGE for Equality. This training is for people of all genders and focuses on male gender socialization and the strategies and skills for developing compassionate, non-violent and equitable boys and men. This training is for anyone committed to safe and empowered relationships and healthier communities, including: students, teachers, coaches, counselors, mentors, community leaders, politicians, police officers, health care professionals, case managers, parents, and community activists.

The training is highly interactive and uses personal reflection and cross-gender dialogue to accomplish the following goals:

  • Understand the dynamics of male socialization and its impacts on people of all genders, families and communities.

  • Understand how violence and trauma contribute to the construction of dominant forms of masculinity.

  • Explore the intersection of masculinities and race, class and homophobia.

  • Learn strategies for engaging people of all genders in the development of healthy non-violent masculinity.

  • Practice skills of cross-gender dialogue and build partnerships between men and women for personal and social change.

  • Develop action plans for empowering and engaging youth and young adults in our community.

  • Strengthen connections among organizations, youth and the community.

We have been approved for 12 CEU’s (including Cultural Competence), but you must attend BOTH days to receive the CEU’s.
