CT STRONG is CFA’s community based program that serves at risk transitioning age youth and young adults between the ages of 16-25. The program is driven by the youth/young adult’s voice; the team, comprised of a Wraparound Facilitator, Peer Specialist, and Family Advocate, strive to connect and build relationships with their clients in order to support them in reaching their potential. To date, the team has worked with over 100 youth/young adults and their families to develop/strengthen self-advocacy skills, seek and obtain employment and housing, pursue education goals, and connect with mental health services.
Each spring, CT STRONG organizes a job fair for the New London community and surrounding towns. Over the past couple of years this event has grown to be a huge success. The fair draws over 30 local businesses and more than 100 prospective employees from all ages and backgrounds. CT STRONG has received such positive feedback regarding this event. Participants have commented “Without CT STRONG, I would have no push… They are the Best!” As well as “This is very needed in the community! Well done CT STRONG, Child & Family.” CT STRONG held this year’s job fair on Friday April 13th at New London High School. The work that has been accomplished through CT STRONG has impacted the way the team views the needs of the community. As a result, the team decided to make a change to this year’s job fair. Along with employers, the fair included representatives from local community resources who provided information regarding services and alternate career paths for those individuals seeking support and guidance in other areas of their lives. The goal of this addition was to encourage individuals who may not be actively seeking employment to attend the fair to explore and learn about resources available to them in their communities- and learn that they are not alone.
