“Buy a Book – Help a Child” Children’s Book Fair sponsored by the East Lyme Auxiliary

“Buy a Book- Help a Child” to be presented by the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency

The East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency will present a community book fair-“Buy a Book- Help a Child” on Thursday, December 1, 2016. The majority of books for this event will be supplied by Usborne Books, which will provide innovative, age -appropriate books for babies to pre-teens.  In addition, four local authors will be on hand to discuss and autograph their books.

The book fair will take place from 3-8 p.m. in the Atrium of the East Lyme Public Library.  All profits from the book fair will be donated by the East Lyme Child and Family Auxiliary to the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern CT to support their programs and services.

Jackie Moore, Usborne book consultant, will showcase a wide array of books from picture books to non-fiction books, Math and Reading learning kits, puzzle and game books, sticker books, dictionaries and Books of Words in French, Spanish, or English. Whatever your children’s favorites, there will be something for every interest and budget. The local authors who will be in attendance are Deb Ciofi- author of Out and About with Howard and Jane, Nancy Shapiro-author of We Had a Ball,  Adam Shaughnessy-author of The Unbelievable FIB Books, and Denise Fenzi- author of Blogger Dog, Brito!, presented by Sally Myers.  Palate Pleasers, the cookbook compiled by the East Lyme Auxiliary, will also be available.

Judi Mitchell is chairperson of the event assisted by her committee of Lynn Fairfield-Sonn, Director of Development at C&FA, Sally Myers-President of the E.L. Auxiliary, and E.L. members Mary Mirabito, Diane McCue and Jane Bates.

This community book fair is a wonderful chance for adults to encourage a love of reading and to build a home library for the children in their lives.  Also, for those people who no longer have children on their holiday gift lists and for those looking to make an important charitable gift,  this is an opportunity to use this time of Holiday Giving to make a book donation to Child and Family Agency that will be used by childcare staff and parents to read to their children.  Books will also be made available to children in the classrooms at the New London Day Nursery and the Early Childhood Development Center in Groton.  For the school age children, books will be used at the B.P. Learned Mission after school and summer care programs.  In addition, we want to encourage donations to your local library.  The Auxiliary will have available book plates to acknowledge your donation.

We want to surround all children with books which can be a life-long portal to knowledge and imagination.  Don’t miss this exciting and engaging event which will solve your shopping problems and make available an opportunity for charitable donations during this Season of Giving.
