Essex June 2012 Newsletter
Dear Members and Friends,
It is Memorial Day weekend and we are now “officially” celebrating SUMMER on the River! In our cozy little town we have yet another parade. We greet and chat with our friends, walk the street and sing along with the Essex Elementary School Band. Marvel at how Sally Riggio and Mimi Ferguson’s children have grown! Joanna and her twin boys watch dad march in his Coast Guard Uniform. We also chat about puppies!
A small plane flies over us and drops the wreath to honor those who lost their lives to protect US. A Silence, a sign and a deep breath…we must remember, we must honor the past and be grateful for they paved our way to freedom. I am always talking about children, but today… those Veterans need a hug. Imagine 19 years old and off to war? They will never forget the pain of war. I can not imagine. But I am here along with the rest of you to say “Thank You.”
Freedom means we can sing and dance! Get involved with the Auxiliary as it fits your schedule and desire. Yes freedom. Sign up for an Auxiliary event committee, read to a young child, or help plant a garden at BP Learned Mission…or not!
This has been the most amazing year for fundraising. Just wait until you hear Kathy Harris’s final treasurer’s report. Can you imagine Kathy “retiring?” after 8 years? BeeBe Miller will be taking over the books and we are so very fortunate.
I went off to visit my mother last week and she reminded me of the JOY she/we share in friendships! Mother is happy in California and she knows I am happy here. Life is never easy but “we get by with a little help from our friends.” A great Beatle tune!!!
Please join us for our end of the year “Pot Luck” at Lucy Rutherford’s on June 19th. Thank you Lucy and Tom!!! We promise not to stomp on the basil or lettuce!
Here’s to a wonderful Summer. Trips, travel, bring in those grandchildren. Camryn and Mia will be running all over now at almost 13! Truly not possible! Ladies, you are my Beatle mantra, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”
With summer warmth and laughter,
