Groton Auxiliary Fall Newsletter 2018

Groton Auxiliary Fall Newsletter 2018

‘Tis time to update the Child & Family Groton Auxiliary news. We hope you have had a great summer and are ready to jump back into the action – or at least ease yourself into the fray?!
Fall Luncheon – Over 40 members and guests came to the Zbierski House in Groton on September 19th to meet and greet several new staff members. We enjoyed a ‘box’ supper prepared by the Grasso Tech students, and elected our slate of officers for the upcoming year.
New Senior Director of Development, Matt Vangieri was introduced and Jen Messina, Director of the B.P.Learned Mission joined us and described her new position as Senior Director of Marketing & Community Relations. She will continue to manage B.P.
Following Matt and Jen’s remarks we elected our new officers:
Co-Chairs, Liz Palazzo & Pat Varholy;
Secretaries, Charlene Hough & Charlotte Shepard;
Treasurer, Judy Blair;
Projects Co-Chairs, Linda Wagner & Carole Mackin;
Nominating Chair, Maggie Prescott;
Membership Chair, Debbie Pettini.
A successful evening in a beautiful setting!
Bookshop News Our Charity Bookshop continues to thrive thanks to the leadership of Ginny McCormack. Ginny will be stepping down as Manager and Carol Ann Galiszuski will take over with Martha Biloskirka joining her as Co-Chair beginning in January.
Many thanks to Ginny for many years of ably managing the Shop.
Other Auxiliary News Our annual participation in Polar Express is coming up in Nov./Dec. After taking a year off, we are planning to change our Holiday Party from a late afternoon affair to a Brunch which will be held on Sunday, December 2 at Shennecosset Yacht Club.
Finally, plans are afoot to make some changes to our annual June event, A Time for Wine (time and place to be decided). Stay tuned for further information.
Agency News Major changes are happening at the Agency. Rick Calvert, our much admired CEO, retired in July and Lisa Otto, COO, is acting as Interim CEO. The search for this position in underway. The CFA Search Committee is working with a consultant to identify potential candidates. No timetable is set as we seek to find just the right person for the job!
As described earlier, Matt Vangieri and Jen Messina are in new positions: Matt is working to develop a strategy to engage major donors over the next few years and to manage ongoing fundraising efforts for the Agency, and Jen to increase our visibility in our communities and particularly to encourage local businesses and professionals to become engaged.
Our Endowment Campaign has reached its $4,000,000 goal thanks to the efforts of a hard working committee over the past two + years. Thanks to all who participated. This is, however, the first phase of a long range effort to continue to increase our endowment. So you will be hearing more about next steps in the near future.
Finally, it must be said that our Agency is blessed with a superb Staff and a great working Board. We are an amazing organization!
