In this day-long workshop, we will learn how to make sense of information related to physical activity and health, as well as explore strategies that have been shown to be effective in helping others address a myriad of issues. Dr. Joseph Ciccolo will begin with an overview of the relevance of physical activity across health domains and across the lifespan. Next, Dr. Lucas Carr will discuss ways to build physical activity into one’s daily life, for example, how to utilize an ‘exercise prescription’ at the worksite. Dr. Elissa Jelalian will then share about strategies for helping adolescent girls address obesity through an interdisciplinary care model. Following this, Mr. Kyle Davis will lead participants through motivational interviewing and behavioral activation strategies that can be used with clients for problem-solving around increased physical activity. The moderator, Dr. Aleta Meyer, will then conclude the day with an interactive discussion of effective application of this knowledge in early childhood settings.
