East Lyme/Niantic August Newsletter
Dear Members & Friends,
School started in most towns yesterday or today. Labor Day is upon us this weekend. We are in the process of switching from Summer mode to Fall mode.
To recap our most recent event . . . the fifth annual Touch a Truck was a huge success!! It brought in over $13,000 for the children and families served by the Agency. Never too soon to mark your calendars for Saturday, May 18, 2013, our 6th annual TAT! The faces of the children tell our story most effectively. Our truckers seemed to have enjoyed themselves as several have already signed on for next year. I have actually received the COI for 2013 from the insurance company representing one of the truckers! Amazing, but true. TAT was truly a team effort! Many Auxiliary members chipped in to help – doing everything from acquiring program ads from area merchants to face painting at the event. Special thanks to our numerous chairpersons – Sally Myers, Wendy Nielsen, Terry Merola, Barb Mingo, Ruth Hammell, Pat Tomaino, Susan Ferguson, Karen Peacock, Pat Belcher, June Hoye, Jane McLane, Diane McCue, Mary Mirabito, Donna Murphy, Jeanne O’Connell, Barbara Stanland, Joanne Kraska and Bob Ames.
We enjoyed a TAT wrap-up picnic at the East Lyme Police Station in lieu of rain at McCook and celebrated Summer with our annual Pot Luck on July 31st at Joanne Kraska’s lovely home. Both provided great opportunities to celebrate our success and have some time to socialize.
We are now working to reinvent the old! The East Lyme Auxiliary sponsored a Celebrity Author Tea for seven years prior to inaugurating Touch A Truck. It will be coming back on Saturday, September 15th as a Celebrity Author Luncheon. Different eats, new authors, but same place – the East Lyme Community Center, same theme, same luxury basket raffle. It’s looking to be a grand event. Authors William Landay and Dawn Tripp, both bestselling mystery authors, should enlighten our thinking. Our co-chairs Diane McCue, Mary Mirabito and Karen Zoller hope you will join us. Tickets are selling well, but are limited. So if you don’t have yours, buy it today! Details and purchasing are available on the website.
We are saddened by the recent death of one of our members, Maribeth Stone. She will be missed. Her artistic talents and upbeat outlook were notable. Our condolences to her family.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming Celebrity Author Luncheon.
Sally Myers, Co-President – East Lyme Auxiliary
