On Saturday, October 13, 2018, the East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department will co-sponsor the Eleventh Annual Touch-a-Truck, a family event that will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at McCook’s Point Park in Niantic, CT.

The East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department is ably led by Dave Putnam, who will be assisted by Mike McDowell- Special Events Coordinator, and Ed Ball- Parks Foreman.  They will all be on hand to pass out information on the Parks and Recreation Programs and Special Events.  In addition, they will proudly be displaying their maintenance equipment for the children to learn more about specialized machinery.

The Parks and Recreation Department has been an invaluable help with staging the complete event. They help with delivering tables and chairs, moving picnic tables, making electricity available to the “chefs”, and generally making sure each activity area has what it needs. Without their co-operation, this event would not be possible.

It’s an educational experience that everyone-big or small-will enjoy.  Children can climb various vehicles, sit in the driver’s seat, and discover the world of trucks.  They will be able to reach the sky in a cherry picker, see, touch, and interact with big trucks, and learn their functions.  This unique event will feature large trucks and heavy equipment from law enforcement, fire departments, commercial companies, industrial companies, and rental companies.

In addition there will be face painting and craft activities for the children. The Rotary will also be registering for Amber Alert.  Refreshments will be available for sale.

The requested donation to benefit the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut is $4 per person with children under age two admitted free of charge. Proceeds benefit the work of Child & Family Agency of Southeastern CT as it annually meets the needs of over seventeen thousand children and their families in our communities.
