For 18 years the Backpacks for Kids program has been providing CFA kids with a new backpack stuffed with school supplies just in time for the start of the new school year. Pat Thompson, volunteer and chair of the Essex River Valley Auxiliary, has played a large part in organizing this program. In conjunction with St John’s Episcopal Church and the Essex River Valley Auxiliary, Pat has worked tirelessly to respond to the needs of our clients.

Over the years, this program has been able to provide hundreds of backpacks allowing each child the opportunity to start their school year off well prepared. Pat explains that this program helps “give a child a feeling of pride and security on the first day of school.”

This year’s program was successful in providing 115 backpacks. The backpacks are filled with back to school essentials for kids in Pre-K right up through 12th grade.  CFA would like to wish all children heading back to school in the upcoming weeks a wonderful start to the new year!
